Grande River - FutaleufúWe have a wide area at our disposal consisting of two really amazing places where fishermen can practise the sport,
Our company has a broad fishing area at its disposal, divided in two amazing places forthe practice of this sport.

Esquel is a town with 30,000 inhabitants, most of all storekeepers and civil servants. It is a touristic point in constant development which offers the snow product for the winter season and the fishing product for the summer season. It consists mainly of two different areas.
The national parks area lies between Rivadavia Lake and the Amutui Quimei dam.

The provincial area consists of all the river basins outside the national parks area, under the care of provincial fish keepers, and lies between Futaleufu River and La Plata Lake in the south of the province.
It certainly has private and public hospitals, airport, restaurants, internet service, post office and police headquarters.

Northern Esquel Circuits

This wide fishing area consists mainly of two amazing places in which the sport can be practised.
The fishing itineraries can be between five and ten days long and the fisherman can enjoy wonderful fishing days.

Fishing in Trevelín, Río Grande or Futaleufú

Twenty-two kilometres away from Esquel and eighteen kilometres away from Los Alerces National Park , Trevelín (“the mill town”) is nothing but a fishing paradise.

The vast hydric basin of the Futaleufú, almost twenty kilometres long, comprises around fifteen glacial lakes and hundreds of creeks and streams and is one of the most important salmonid fishing places in the world.
In this river bed wonderful brownies, rainbows, perches, pejerreyes and pacific salmons can be found.

In these points both raft and shore fishing are possible. Small islands are formed in the basin and many streams flow into this river, ending in the Chilean Yelcho Lake.

In this area, activities can be performed in two strategic points with various itineraries of no more than two days long, along the twenty kilometres of either Grande River or Futaleufú River.

Fishing can be on rafts or from the shore and for lunch the fisherman can rest and enjoy typical meals on the small islands of the river bed, after embarking on afternoon activities. This river offers the fisherman magnificent rainbows and brownies of 800 kg.

Activities can be carried out until late in the afternoon.
Fishermen are afterwards driven back to Esquel to have a comfortable evening rest in high-rated cottages.

Corintos River > Return

This river of very still waters rises in the Patagonian cordillera and, after running along a great distance, it flows into the very well-known Grande River.

Brownies and rainbows can be found. Fishing is performed with little imitation-nymphs and dries and a fisherman can have up to twenty takings a day of average specimens of twenty to thirty centimetres.

Tecka River

This river usually bursts its banks with precipitations and season changes. It is a mountain river running along a great distance and receiving the water of many other streams such as the famous Pescado Creek and Gualjaina River.
Good takings are ensured and average specimens are between twenty and forty centimetres long.

Gualjaina River > Return

Its waters receive Tecka River and Pescado Creek’s and together they flow into Chubut River –one of the longest rivers in the province of Chubut.
Gualjaina River offers amazing amounts of medium-weighted specimens and dry fishing-fanciers will be enjoying a place like any other in the world.

Chubut River

This river has its origins in the parallel 42 of the province of Rio Negro, runs along 800 km into the province of Chubut and flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
In this area, great brownies, rainbows and perches can be found, allowing the fisherman very good takings. The water level fluctuates due to its gravel and sand bottom. Good fishing is registered between December and March.

Nant Fall River > Return

This river rises in Rosario Lake and it is an extraordinary fishing point but not so good for fly fishing. It houses rainbow specimens of up to fifty centimetres which are very difficult to catch. Their vitality and strength will astonish the experienced fisherman. This marvellous river is surrounded by magines (mallines?), small shrubs, pozones? (deep pools) and amazing correderas (rápidos?= rapids) with small water falls.

Vertiente River “spring”

This spring is of mountain origin and flows into a small river where a lot of rainbows and brownies can be found. They can be between twenty-five and forty centimetres long and fishermen have taken over fifty specimens on a fishing day. Flowing in curves and flats with rapids into Lepa River, this is an amazing place for Polish fishing/ for fishing in the Polish fashion.

Willmanco Lake > Return

Willmaco LakeThis lake is eight kilometres away from Esquel and, being private property, admission is not free. Very similar to Los Roques in Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, it has white sands and transparent shores with reed beds.
Fishing in this place is to be done in rafts and belly boats, casting the shores and shore-fishing. Walking is possible in some areas and its incredible salmonids can be clearly seen. Rainbows are amazing in their strength and sizes (between two and four kilograms of weight, averagely) and are not so easy catch.

This is a place where the experienced fisherman will have the chance to put into practice their entire fly fishing knowledge. Imitation-Scud. Mayfly, Nymphs and some streamers imitating Dancel and Dragonfly are most typically used in this lake.

Larga Lake > Return

Surrounded by mountains and typical trees such as lengas and ñires, this lake is located near Los Alerces National Park and is 3,000 meters long and 500 meters wide.
Its left wooded shore is inhabited by great combative brownies, twenty-one inches long, which were introduced in Patagonia in 1905.
Fishing is usually done in big streamers because of the specimens’ size; however, dries and small nymphs can be employed early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

South Circuit – Pico River > Return

Pico River Basin

Pico River - ChubutOne of the best known places in Patagonia for the quality of its wild and genetic trouts is the town of Río Pico, 250 km away from Esquel.
Río Pico is a town of cattle farmers and has 1,800 inhabitants. It is a very peaceful place and the lakes are not far way from each other. There are a couple of fishing lodges and cabins where the fisherman can enjoy a comfortable stay and very good services, including various fishing itineraries around rivers and lakes. The town has 20 surrounding lakes and one the most famous rivers is Pico River, which runs along Verde Lake, Figueroa River and Roselot Lake and flows into Chilean waters. Rainbows and brownies can be found and wonderful Pacific salmons can be taken in December.

Las Pampas River flows into this basin and it is an amazing fishing point for those lovers of dries and small nymphs (hooks 12-16); continuous takings of small rainbows (between 800 g and 2 kg) are possible.
Pico River is also fed by Nilson River, a small river offering the Spanish fisher a very attractive activity. Polish fishing can be practiced with salmonid takings between 5 and 8 points average and specimens of 1.5 kg average. This is a privileged place surrounded by beautiful small willows; early December is the suggested time to start fishing there.
Lake 3 and Lake 5 are very good places for fishing record trouts between one and six kilograms of weight. The fisherman will enjoy great and incredible dry Corcovado Rivertakings in the afternoon. Between five and ten takings are usual on a good fishing day and the vitality of these wild trouts in their natural environment will be felt in the fisherman’s arms.
Lake number 2 is one of the few places for the practice of spinning and fly, providing incredible takings of 2- 8 km salmonids.
As Río Pico has many surrounding lakes, the most important ones are marked with numbers 1 to 5. Also very well-known small lakes can be found such as El Guacho, Los Niños, Engaño Lake and La Berta.
Corcovado River is must in this basin. It rises in Winter Lake and runs along a great distance with rapids and deep pools offering the best rainbows and fontinalis in Patagonia, whose genetics makes them unique in the world.
